Robert Anthony Kochert, 93, of Lafayette, IN passed away at 2:30 p.m. on January 20, 2021 at St. Anthony Health Care Lafayette, IN where he had resided for the past 14 months. Robert was born in Brookston, IN on July 29, 1927 to the late George and Elizabeth (Albert) Kochert and he attended Wea and St. Lawrence schools. He married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Boyle, at St. Lawrence Church October 27, 1956 and she preceded him in death in May 2017. He was preceded in death by his bothers; Michael, Vincent, Valentine and Robert John and sisters; Dorothy (Kochert) Shrader, Rita (Kochert) Hobbs and Mary Kochert. He was much loved by his many nieces and nephews. Surviving are his four children; son Eugene (Cathy) Kochert of Phoenix, AZ, daughter Kathy (Tom) Dailey of Columbus, OH, son Vincent (Lisa) Kochert, of Charlotte, NC and daughter Elizabeth (Donnie) McCraw of Lafaytte, IN. Also, surviving are six grand-children; Amanda (Ben) Monrad, Melissa Edwards, Clayton (Samantha) Taylor, Megan (Ben) Hart; Stephen (Christy) Taylor, Abbey Kochert; and four great grandchildren; Naomi and Isaac Robinson and Robert, Nora and Nicholas Taylor. Bob loved life and spending time with his lovely wife Barb and their family. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday. Two quotes that were often heard from him were “ It doesn’t get any better than this!” and “ We’re making memories!” He touched the lives of so many and left countless memories along the way. Bob grew up farming in Lafayette and then in Crawfordsville, IN. He was a union electrician for 29 years working for Sanborn Electric and Long Electric. Bob was a proud member of IBEW Local 668. His first job was at Purdue University constructing the jet propulsion lab. He also completed projects at Home Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Caterpillar, SIA, Staley, Eli Lilly, Duncan Meter, Ross Gear and Indiana Veteran’s Home. He was a member of St. Ann’s Church where he served as an usher and Life Member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed many hours of golfing at the Lafayette Municipal Golf course. Bob was an avid White Sox, Purdue Boilermaker and Central Catholic Knight fan. Some of his favorite activities with family and friends were playing Euchre, corn hole and croquet. His laugh and warm smile will be greatly missed! In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew 25 Care and Share Soup Kitchen, 612 Wabash Avenue, Lafayette, IN 47905. In the memo section include in memory of Robert Kochert. Due to Covid-19, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Fr. Dennis Faker officiating.
