Judy Poor

October 8, 1942 ~ August 6, 2021 (age 78)

Obituary

Overnight into the morning of Friday, August 6, 2021, Judy (Harden) Poor, aged 78, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home and awoke to behold the face of Jesus. She was known as a loving and fun big sister, a faithful wife, and a devoted mother and affectionate Nana. She will be remembered most for her loving heart, warm hugs, delicious cookies, and beautiful quilts. Judy was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 8, 1942 to the late Dr. Murray Eugene and Marjorie (Milligan) Harden. She was raised alongside her brothers Timothy Murray (Cheryl) Harden and Thomas Frost (Suzanne) Harden who survive her. During high school, she worked summers in Washington D.C., in the office of U.S. Congresswoman Cecil Murray Harden, her grandmother. She graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1960, and after graduating from Indiana University in 1964, she taught school in Covington before marrying her life-long companion and husband, Robert Loyd Poor, on September 16, 1967. Together, they worked in real estate, founded their company RE/AIM, and built a life of love and joy while raising their daughter Suzanne “Suzy” (David) Younger. Both her husband and daughter survive her. As a stay-at-home mother, or “domestic engineer” as she called herself, Judy created a beautiful welcoming culture in the home that made wonderful memories for family and friends. She would often be seen sitting in her chair hand-quilting while friends were over, in the kitchen when the ”Cookie Monster” came and she baked her amazing cookies, or in the ballet studio or theater enjoying the company of other moms waiting for class or rehearsal to end. When grandchildren arrived, she became known as a loving “cushy Nana”, known for her warm hugs and snuggles, and the ability to fix any injured stuffed animal for her three grandchildren, John Paul, 10, Liesel, 8, and Peter Joseph, 4. She had a deep commitment to her family, friends, and Christian faith that provided her with steadfast comfort throughout her life. We are thankful for the many wonderful memories we have of Judy, and as we grieve the loss of having her with us, we simultaneously rejoice that she has received her eternal reward. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Monday, August 30th at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 318 N. 9th Street, Lafayette, IN with luncheon to follow. Graveside services and burial will follow at 2:30pm at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington, IN. Friends may visit the family from 9:30-10:30am on Monday at the church, prior to Mass.
