Obituary

Elizabeth E. “Betty” (Windler) Korty, 70, of Romney, Indiana, peacefully entered into her eternal reward on Thursday, January 6, 2022, surrounded by her family. Betty was born in Lafayette, IN, on January 7, 1951 to the late Virgil and M. Eileen (Morrissey) Windler of Oxford, Indiana. She graduated in 1969 from Benton Central HS, and briefly attended Purdue University. On May 5, 1973 she married Daniel N. Korty of Lafayette, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fowler, IN, and he survives. Betty spent her life as a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was involved in Indiana Rural Youth, the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association Auxiliary, the Tippecanoe County Extension Homemakers, the St. Mary Cathedral Altar Rosary Society, and recently a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Crawfordsville. She lived a life of loving service to others, and was well known for her delicious homemade cooking and preserving home grown produce. You would consider yourself very blessed to be the recipient of one of her beautifully decorated cakes made by scratch. Along with her husband Dan, Betty is survived by her children; Susan (Louis) Hoefer, of Lafayette, Catherine (Chad) Linn of Greenfield, IN, Carolyn (Phil) McKinnis of Lafayette, Angela (Bob) Munroe of Southgate, MI, and Jerry Korty of Cleveland, OH; her siblings Ruth (Bob) Kleeman of Houston, TX, Tom Windler of Phoenix, AZ, Janet Windler of Lafayette, Janice Wyant of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Karen Fields of Lafayette; 19 grandchildren and many brothers and sisters-in-law as well as nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers William and John “Jack” Windler, and sister Barbara “Bobbie” Metzinger. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 12 from 4-7 pm at Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St. in Lafayette. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 13 at 11:00 am at St. Bernard Church, 1306 E. Main St., Crawfordsville, with graveside service beginning at 2:30 pm at St. Boniface Cemetery, Lafayette. Fr. Michael Bower will be officiating.
