Obituary

David Emmett Guthridge was born August 31, 1939 In Lafayette, IN to Emmett O. and Esther (Scott) Guthridge. He lived in Fowler, IN and attended and graduated from Fowler High School in 1958. He attended Purdue University and Indiana Business College before joining his father in business. He was first married to Patricia Saager in 1960 and they were later divorced. Their daughter, Carol, was born December 1960. He married Gayle Pribie February 14, 1974. They resided in Fowler, IN, where he was in business for over 50 years. He was first a partner in G&G Insurance with his father, Emmett, and later the sole owner of the agency and with his wife, Gayle, in Guthridge Real Estate. Dave served in the United States Army Reserve program for 6 years from 1969 to 1974 and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant E-6. He was a lifetime member of the Fowler United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees. He was a member of Fowler Rotary Club for many years and served as President, Treasurer, and various other committees. He was a Paul Harris Fellow. Dave was a past member of the Benton Community Foundation Board. He was a member of the Boswell Library Board, Member and President of the Benton Co. Historic Society. He was a Precinct Committeeman in Center Twp, Benton Co. and never missed a vote at that precinct until moving to rural Bowell in 2011. Dave was a member of the Fowler Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years and served as Assistant Chief for many years. He was chosen and served as one of the Torch Bearers for Benton County in the 2016 Bicentennial. Dave is survived by his wife, Gayle, of Boswell, daughter, Carol of Indianapolis, grandsons Brock and Brody Banta, of Indianapolis; sister-in-law, Janet Guthridge; nieces and nephews, Michael A. Park (Yvonne), Megan R. Graham (Cory), Amy Millburg, Scott Guthridge, Jane Guthridge Cotton (Jon) and Jennifer Guthridge Williams (David). His parents and a brother, Garry, preceded him in death. Dave enjoyed talking and visiting with people. He also loved to have a big garden and share produce with friends and neighbors as well as enjoy fresh vegetables and canned and frozen produce in the winter. He also enjoyed working with Food Finders in Earl Park. Memorials in David’s name may be made to Benton Community Foundation or Fowler United Methodist Church. Visitation for Dave will be at Fowler United Methodist Church, 908 E 12th Street, Fowler, IN on Thursday March 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. His Celebration of Life will be Friday March 31, at 11:00 a.m., also at Fowler United Methodist Church.
