Catherine Ann Corwin, 88, of Lafayette entered the gates of Heaven peacefully on April 4, 2023, with her loving family by her side. Catherine, also affectionally known as Catsy, Cathy, Mrs. C, and Iya was born November 14th 1934 in Sewickley, Pennsylvania to the late James and Anna Curcio. Catherine moved to Lafayette in 1962 with her then-husband Gene Corwin and daughters Carol and Sandra. Her third daughter, Donna, was later born in Lafayette. Catherine worked at General Foods for twelve years until they closed, and she retired from Purdue University after ten years of service. Catherine’s work ethic was admirable, and all who knew her would agree.
Catherine was an avid bowler. She was a lefty and threw a mean straight ball! She won an abundance of awards and competed in many leagues, including state tournaments over the years until she hung up her bowling shoes for good a few years ago. She loved to crochet and made several afghans for her family. You could find Catherine every Wednesday night at the Eagles playing Bingo with her friends, or traveling to pull the arm of a slot machine at a casino! She also liked taking long walks to Armstrong Park, playing skee-ball at Indiana Beach, and attending every single one of her grandkids’ games and activities. She loved her grandchildren to the moon and stars and back and had fun taking them shopping and to Christos, Arnis, and the Frozen Custard. On Saturdays, Catherine enjoyed going to garage sales with her family. She loved to work in her yard, keeping it in pristine shape all year round. If a single leaf made its way on her grass, she was out there picking it right up! Catherine was also a lifelong Purdue and Steelers fan and would never miss a chance to cheer them on.
Catherine was a faithful and dedicated member of St. Mary Cathedral for many years. She took pride in her strong faith in God and instilled God’s love into her children and grandchildren. Iya will be forever cherished and loved by her daughters: Carol (Greg) Davis, Sandra Corwin (Mike Fisher), and Donna (James) Marlatt. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Andrew and Alex King, Mason and Rayce Fisher, Anna and Liz Marlatt, and a great granddaughter who will make her arrival in June. Surviving also are her two brothers Anthony and Ron Curcio and sister Ginger (Gene) Sullivan. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Anna Curcio, siblings Elwood and James Curcio, and grandson Aaron King. Iya will also be greatly missed by her treasured cat Dixie Cup, who adored her more than anyone else.
The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to all their family and friends who have who have offered all of their love, support, and prayers. Especially in the last eleven years when she suffered from dementia and was lovingly cared for in her home by her three daughters. A mother’s and grandmother’s love transcends through time and beyond and never ends. We feel so blessed to have been loved so fiercely and completely by this amazing woman.
We love you more Iya.
