William Snellenbarger

June 24, 1930 — January 11, 2014

William H. Snellenbarger, 83, of West Lafayette and formerly of New Richmond, died at the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette 8:25 AM Saturday January 11, 2014. William was born in Marshalltown, Iowa June 24, 1930, the son of the late William Ora and Pearl Wild Snellenbarger. He was a graduate of New Richmond High School and attended the University of Alaska and the University of Georgia. Mr. Snellenbarger was the retired owner of Snellenbarger Oil Company. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Alaska during the Korean War as a radar operator. William married Bernice S. Saylors in Atlanta, Georgia June 3, 1953, and she survives. He was a member of the former New Richmond United Methodist Church and a 50 year member and past-master of New Richmond Masonic Lodge #604 F & AM. Surviving with his wife are three sons, Brent (wife Jean) Snellenbarger of Ft. Mill, South Carolina; Michael (companion Alisa) and Rex (wife Ofelia) Snellenbarger, both of Lafayette, IN; and by a brother Joseph (wife Louise) Snellenbarger of New Richmond, IN. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jenny (Steve) Parker, Kristi (Tom) Greenoe, Michelle and Nathan Snellenbarger; and by 5 great-grandchildren, Ellana, Sofina, Garrett, Evan and Jade. He was preceded in death by a brother, David Snellenbarger. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from Noon until the funeral service at 1:00 PM Thursday, Pastor Jerry Miller officiating. Private family interment will be held at New Richmond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette, IN.
