Virginia Oberlie

Virginia M. Oberlie, 97, of Lafayette, IN. died at Rosewalk Village in Lafayette 3:08 PM Wednesday March 2, 2011 where she had been a patient since November. Mrs. Oberlie was born in Peotone, IL. February 17, 1914, the daughter of the late Linford and Virginia Anshutz Smith, and was a 1933 graduate of Rensselaer, IN High School, and had resided in Lafayette since 1934. She married Charles Oberlie in Lafayette, IN. April 18, 1935, and he preceded her in death in 1964. Mrs. Oberlie was a long time employee of Reifers Furniture and had also worked for Loeb's Department Store and Tom Mar Interiors. She was a former Brownie Leader at the former Ford School and a Girl Scout Leader at Murdock School and attended Bethany Presbyterian Church. Surviving are twin daughters, Sharon Neal (husband Jay) of Indianapolis, IN. and Carolyn Army of Brookston, IN. and a son, Charles Oberlie of Michigan City, IN. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Craig (Jamie) Neal; Kevin(Heather) Neal; Randall Neal; Brian (Judy) Oberlie; Steven (Pam) Oberlie and Stephanie (George) Adams, 9 great-grandchildren, a niece and 2 nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Private family services will be held at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette, Saturday, the Rev. Joseph Park officiating, with interment at Weston Cemetery, Rensselaer, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Bethany Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society.
