Velma Albertson

October 12, 1924 — February 20, 2016

Velma Buchanan Albertson, 91, of West Lafayette, IN, and formerly of Benton County, IN went to be with Jesus at 11:35 PM Saturday February 20, 2016 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette, IN. Velma was born in Nancy, KY October 12, 1924, the daughter of the late Daniel and Flora Merrick Prather, and was a graduate of Nancy, KY High School. She and her first husband, Noble Buchanan, came to Benton County in 1945 to farm. To that union, four children were born including triplets, Glenda Buchanan of West Lafayette, IN, Linda Vice of Omaha, NE, Bruce Buchanan (Ginger) of Fowler, IN and Connie Frey (Rodney) of Greenwood, IN. Velma later married Harold Albertson in Tazewell, TN Nov. 5, 1977, and he preceded her in death in 2005. Also surviving is a sister, Clarice Brock of Harrodsburg, KY; 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Velma was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Howard Vice, a granddaughter, Jill Vice, a grandson, Andrew Brost, four brothers and two sisters. She was a member of White Oak Baptist Church in Nancy, KY and also a member of Crestview Community Church in Lafayette. Velma loved her faith, her family and farm life. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 5 until 7 PM Tuesday Feb. 23,followed by a service at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home in West Somerset, KY on Thursday Feb. 25 at 1:00 PM, with visitation from 11:00 AM until the time of the service, Rev. Dr. James Floyd officiating. The interment will follow at Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, KY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crestview Community Church, 1400 Ortman Lane, Lafayette, IN, 47909 or White Oak Baptist Church, 151 Highway 196, Box 114, Nancy, KY 42544.
