Sue Scheumann Funkhouser

Sue Scheumann Funkhouser, 83, of Pearland, Texas, passed away on the morning of April 10, 2026, in Houston. Born on December 20, 1942, in Lafayette, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late L.E. Scheumann and Rita Scheumann (Deerr).

Sue graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1960 and went on to attend Indiana University.

On April 15, 1961, she married Henry Funkhouser at St. Mary Cathedral. They were blessed with three children, and built an accounting business together. After a lengthy battle with cancer, Hank died on March 18, 2004.

Sue spent 40 years living in Lafayette before embracing a life of travel, residing in several states over the years, including Florida, California, and finally for the last 30 years, Pearland, Texas.

Although she officially retired from full time work in 1994, she was always working, right up until she died, she offered her services to various friends and family, in addition to several small businesses. She was active in her community and served as the county chairperson for the Democratic party for 16 years.

Secretly, she was a gamer, her great grandkids called her the Digital Dinosaur, and she was known to beat them in Roblox and other math games.

She is survived by her siblings Thomas(Barb) Scheumann, Sally Giese, and Mary (Bob)Whitney; three children Vicki (Fadi) Abdallah, William (Blancha), and Jacqueline Funkhouser; grandchildren Daniel (Kelsey) Abadallah, Seth (Hannah) Abdallah, Romolo Acquistapace and Jazmin Acquistapace; great grandchildren Jace, Emery, Lincoln and Alice.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Funkhouser; her parents, L.E. Scheumann and Rita Scheumann; brothers Charles and John Scheumann; brother-in-law Scott Giese.

A visitation will be held from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home in Lafayette. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 PM at the funeral home.
