Steven L."Steve" Grant, age 61, of Lafayette, died at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis Tuesday morning June 22, 2010, where he had been a patient for 1 day. Born June 10, 1949 in Lafayette to Raymond J. and Dorothy E. Hild Grant, he was a graduate of Battle Ground High School, attended Indiana State University, and a graduate of the Indiana Police Academy. Mr. Grant served as a deputy sheriff in Tippecanoe County for 25 years, retiring in 2003 with the rank of Captain. He had also served as jail commander, operations commander and from 2003-2005 served as director of the work release program in Tippecanoe County. Prior to becoming a deputy sheriff, had had worked for 11 years at Duncan Electric, and as a deputy town marshal for Battle Ground 3 years. Steve was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 135; Indiana Sheriff's Association; Battle Ground Masonic Lodge # 313, F & AM ; Tippecanoe Shrine Club; Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis; the Battle Ground Fire Dept. for 15 years; the Murat Temple Shrine and the National Hot Rod Association as well as helping coach girls softball at the Battle Ground Summer Rec Program. He married Ramona "Sue" Coy in Lafayette December 5, 1970 and she survives, along with a daughter, Christie L. Turbeville (husband Rob) of Clarksville, IN. and a brother, Michael C. Grant (wife Nancy) of Port Huron, MI. Also surviving is a grandson, Grant Jackson Turbeville, the light of Steve's life. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St. Lafayette, from 5 until 8 PM Thursday, with Battle Ground Masonic Lodge # 313 F & AM rites at 7:30 P.M. Funeral services will be held at Grace United Methodist Church in Lafayette 10:30 A.M. Friday, Rev. Dr. R. Clayton Kendall officiating. Interment, Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
