Rosario Santos

Rosario Ponce Santos, 88, lovingly called "Lola Nene" by her family, died at St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette 11:30 AM Sunday April 3, 2016 with her family around her. Rosario was born in the Manila, Phillipines November 9, 1927, the daughter of the late Antonino and Felicidad Veneracion Ponce. She was a graduate of Rizal High School in Manila, and received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the National Teachers College also in Manila. Rosario married Octavio Santos, Sr. June 25, 1955 in Manila, and he preceded her in death in 1979. She came to the United States in 1988, and has lived in Lafayette since 1989. Rosario was a retired elementary school teacher in Manila and a member of St. Mary Cathedral in Lafayette. She is survived by a daughter, Dr. Rosario Chua, M.D. of Lafayette; four sons, Octy Santos (wife Marylee) of Missasauga, Ontario, Canada, Coty Santos (wife Lisa), Dino Santos (wife Fe) and Ray Santos, (wife Fe) all of Lafayette; her son-in-law, Tony Cosico of Lafayette; and by 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ninni Cosico and by six brothers. Friends may call at St. Mary Cathedral from 9:30 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM Saturday, April 9, Fr. Jeff Martin officiating. The interment will follow at Meadow View Cemetery. If friends desire, memorials may be made to the Neo Natal ICU of St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette.
