Robert J. "Bobby" Smith, 60, of Oxford, Indiana, died as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Iroquois County, IL. 12:05 P.M. Friday November 6, 2009. He was born in Lafayette, IN. October 20, 1949, the son of William Smith and Lois R. Hall Burton and was a lifelong Oxford resident. He served as a Green Beret in the US Army during the Viet Nam War, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart, Parachutist Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, and Vietnamese Campaign Medal. Mr. Smith was a member of the Oxford Church of Christ, the American Legion at Earl Park, and the Benton County Bow Hunters Association. Surviving is a daughter, Abigail Rae Smith-Roe of West Lafayette; his mother and her companion Sue Burton and Bill Munsey of Oxford; his father and step-mother William and Judy Smith of Lafayette; 3 sisters, Bev Bruner (husband Russ) of Oxford, IN.; Deb Musser (husband Bruce) of Peru, IN.; Rhonda Clark (husband Gene) of Battle Ground, IN.; 2 half brothers, Randy Smith of Lafayette, IN.; Rick Smith of Indianapolis, IN.; and a half sister Michelle Anderson (husband David) of Attica, IN. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Bucholtz. A memorial service will be held at the Oxford Church of Christ 11:00 AM Wednesday, Larry McMillan officiating.
