Robert Nichols

Robert M. Nichols, age 90, of Lafayette, IN. died at his residence 6:25 AM Thursday July 21, 2011. He was born in Decatur, IL. February 17, 1921, the son of the late Robert N. and Clara Hubbard Nichols, and attended St. Mary's Grade School and was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School as well as Lafayette Business College. Mr. Nichols married Elma M. Richard in Lafayette, IN. April 19, 1947, and she survives. He was formerly employed at Peerless Wire Goods, but worked at Purdue University for many years in the Physics Department, from which he retired. Mr. Nichols was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral; the Knights of Columbus; American Legion Post 11 and served in the US Navy during World War II. Surviving with his wife is a son, Robert A. Nichols (wife Anne) of West Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Matthew Nichols (wife Monica) of Terre Haute, IN.; Jeremy Nichols of Chicago, IL.; Jennifer Bazick (husband Jeff) of Ida, MI.; Sarah Bradford (husband Chris) of Batesville, IN.; Elizabeth Nichols (fiancAC. Aaron Hawkins) of Cleveland, OH.; 9 great-grandchildren, Madeline, Brady,Charlie, Garrett,Ian,Brooke, Macyn, Lincoln and Quincy and a special nephew, Charles Hulswitt. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Hulswitt. Friends may call from 10 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM Wednesday at St. Mary's Cathedral, Fr. Eric Underwood officiating, with interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
