Rita Scheumann

Rita E. Scheumann, 93, of Lafayette, died at Rosewalk Commons in Lafayette 7:30 AM Sunday June 28, 2008, where she had made her residence for the past 7 years. Born in Lafayette January 27, 1916, the daughter of the late Charles M. and Elsie McCord Deerr, she was a lifelong Lafayette resident. Mrs. Scheumann attended St. Boniface Grade School, was a 1935 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School ,attended Purdue University and Lafayette Business College. She married Levon E. "Pug" Scheumann in Lafayette December 27, 1941, and he preceded her in death April 9, 1969. Mr. Scheumann worked part time for a number of years as a customer service representative for the Dwight D. Keim Insurance Agency in Lafayette. She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral; former member of the Catholic Daughters; former member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary; former member of the St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary; member and past secretary of the St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society; and had served as a vice president for the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed playing cards of any type. Surviving are 3 daughters, Sue Funkhouser of Pearland, Texas; Sally Giese (husband Scott) of Lafayette, IN.; Mary Ann Whitney (husband Robert) of Venice, Florida; and 3 sons, Chuck Scheumann (wife Cindy) of Fishers, IN.; Tom Scheumann (wife Barb) of Lafayette, IN. and John Scheumann (wife June) of Lafayette, IN. She was the proud grandmother to 18 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at St. Mary's Cathedral from 10 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM Wednesday, Fr. Dan Gartland officiating. Interment St. Boniface Cemetery. If friends desire, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Nightingale Hospice Care.
