Richard Kemmer

Richard E. Kemmer, 83, of Lafayette, died at St. Anthony Healthcare in Lafayette 11:51 PM Friday March 25, 2016 where he had been a patient since February 18. Richard, a lifelong Lafayette resident, was born in Lafayette July 26, 1932, the son of the late Eugene Schofield and Nettie Mae Hanawalt Kemmer. He was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School and attended Purdue University. Richard married Janet K. Daily at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Kokomo, IN February 1, 1958, and she survives. He was employed by Henry Poor Lumber for 10 years, and later worked at Purdue University for 35 years as a tape recording technician, retiring in 1999. Richard was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was very proud to be included in the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in October 2015. Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Merri Anne Wright (husband Scott) of Lafayette and a son, Scott Michael Kemmer of Indianapolis. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Matt Wright of Lafayette, Brittney Irvin (husband Craig) of Lafayette; and 2 great-grandchildren, Jayden and Kayson Irvin. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Kemmer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church 10:00 AM Wednesday, Fr. Tim Alkire officiating. The interment will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 11. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Boniface Catholic Church.
