Richard Fell

Richard E. Fell, 89, of Oxford, died at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette 9:13 AM Saturday July 19, 2008. He had been a patient there for the past 2 days and in failing health the past 3 months. Mr. Fell was born in Oxford, March 7, 1919 the son of the late Everett and Jennie Rasmussen Fell of Oxford, and resided all of his life in Oxford except for 6 months. He attended all 12 years of school in Oxford, graduating in 1937, and played baseball all 4 years of high school. Mr. Fell was first married to Pauline Beaver in Attica on November 4, 1942 and she preceded him in death September 12, 1970. He then married Phyllis A. Eberly Greenwood on January 16, 1971, and she survives. Following his graduation from high school, Mr. Fell worked on the railroad at Alcoa, and then became a union bricklayer. He received his 50 year Gold Bricklayer Pin and card in 2001, and was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman Local #4. Mr. Fell was a member of the Oxford Federated Church, and the Oak Grove Country Club for many years. Playing golf was his greatest hobby, besides gardening, growing trees, traveling, playing pool, being a pro shuffleboard player, photographer and developer. Surviving beside his wife is a son, David L. Fell (wife Gayle Russell) of Lafayette; a step-daughter, Gloria Thomas (husband Harry) of Belton, MO.; a step-son, Tom Greenwood (companion Deb Malone) of Oxford; and 2 brothers, Daniel Fell (wife Dorothy) and Linden Fell (wife Luella) both of Oxford.
Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, Oxford from 9:30 until the service at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, Rev. Priscilla Bazler officiating with interment following in Justus Cemetery. Also surviving is a granddaughter, Lynette Fell of Ft. Myers, FL.; a grandson, Richard R. Fell (wife Krissy) of Lafayette, and a great-grandson, Cody Fell of Lafayette.
