Raymond Batina

Raymond T. Batina, 91, of Lafayette, died at Franciscan Health, St. Elizabeth East Sunday September 22, 2013. Raymond was born in Chicago, IL. March 5, 1922, the son of the late Lawrence and Mary Ryniak Batina. He graduated from Kelly High School in Chicago, IL. , received his Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1944, and his MBA from the University of Chicago in 1950. Raymond married Hellen B. Neher in LaGrange, Il. August 11, 1951, and she survives. Prior to and during World War II, Raymond worked for Western Electric as a chemical engineer. From 1948 until 1966 he was employed with Continental Can Co. of Chicago and New York City, and from 1966 until 1982 he was with Libby, McNeil & Libby (Nestle') in Chicago, IL. He later founded R.T. Batina & Associates, a chemical and environmental engineering consulting company, retiring at the age of 87. Raymond was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral. Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Sally F. Middlesworth (husband Mark) of Marion, IN.; three sons, Raymond G. Batina (wife Lori) of Pullman, WA.; John T. Batina (wife Maxine) of Williamsburg, VA., and William P. Batina of Carmel, NY. as well as a brother, Thaddeus Batina (wife Eldora) of San Mateo, CA. Also surviving are four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Batina and by two brothers, Tom and Jerome Batina. Friends may call at St. Mary's Cathedral from 9:30 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM Friday Sept. 27, Fr. Robert Klemme and Fr. Jeff Martin officiating, with entombment at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Mausoleum. If friends desire, memorials may be made to Caregiver Companion.
