Cover for Piroska Molnár Haywood's Obituary

Piroska Molnár Haywood

April 9, 1938 — March 28, 2026

West Lafayette

Since the purpose of an obituary is to provide information about a deceased person, it seems sensible for the person himself to compose it during his life. This should also prevent the confusion between the public and private spheres of a person’s life that has come to mark obituaries of late and which is manifested by the inclusion of such matters as the hobbies or pets of the deceased. So this is my draft for my own obituary, which I composed in January of 2016.

OBITUARY for PIROSKA MOLNÁR HAYWOOD

Piroska Molnár Haywood died March 28 at her home in West Lafayette. She was born in 1938 in Nyiregyháza, Hungary, the daughter of Dr. Gyula ráczalmási Molnár and his wife Dr. Terézia jeddi Fejér. Piroska Molnár graduated from Trinity College in Washington, D.C. and subsequently received an MA in East European History from Columbia University in 1965. She married Richard Mowbray Haywood in 1965. He was a professor of Russian history at Purdue University from 1969 until his death in 2000. Mrs. Haywood was a housewife all her married life. She is survived by her son Richard Gyula Haywood of Carmel, Indiana and his three children; and by her son Charles Rudolf Haywood of Carmel, Indiana, his wife Alison Murphy, and their five children. She is also survived by her sister, Enikő Molnár Basa of Washington, D.C. Her parents, her aunt Ilona jeddi Fejér, and her sister Emese Molnár Bagley of London, United Kingdom, preceded her in death.
