Phylis Ann Bower

Phylis Ann Bower, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family on October 25, 2023. She was born on September 30, 1937, in Lafayette, Indiana to Courtney and Essie Johnson.

Phylis grew up in Lafayette and graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1955. She dedicated her life to creating a loving and nurturing home for her family. Phylis was a devoted wife to her late husband Joseph C. Bower who passed away on February 23, 2001. Together, they shared a bond built on love, trust, and faith.

As a homemaker, Phylis was meticulous about her cooking. She had a talent for preparing delicious meals that brought everyone together around the table. She took great joy in ensuring that every dish she prepared was perfect. Phylis's family and friends will forever cherish the memories of her homemade meals. Besides her passion for cooking, Phylis had many other hobbies. She had a beautiful singing voice and loved to use it while praising Jesus.  Furthermore, Phylis had an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and found solace in her religious beliefs throughout her life.

Phylis will always be remembered as the matriarch of her family - a warm and loving presence who touched the lives of all those around her. Her kind spirit and nurturing nature made her a pillar of strength for her loved ones.

Phylis is survived by her daughters Anne Strawsma (Ron) and Julie Clark (David), sons Joseph Bower II and James Bower (Pam), brothers Dale and Denny Johnson, ten grandchildren, two step grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. Her family was everything to her, and she treasured every moment spent with them.

Phylis was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joseph Bower, her parents Courtney and Essie Johnson, brothers Charlie and Roscoe "Bud" Johnson, sisters Marie Cowgill and Stella Johnson, and great-grandson Jasper Clark. 

A visitation will be held in honor of Phylis on October 30, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Hahn-Groeber Funeral & Cremation Services in Lafayette. A funeral service will follow at the same location at 6:00 PM. The address for the services is 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette, IN 47901. A private graveside will be held on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army of Lafayette.

Phylis Ann Bower's legacy will continue through the memories she created during her lifetime. Her warm smile, kind heart and commitment to family will forever be cherished. May she rest in eternal peace with her Lord and Savior.
