Philip Lee Nine passed away peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2025. Philip was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carole Lynne (Larson) Nine and his parents, Donald and Lillian (Culver) Nine.
Philip is survived by sons Kenneth (Mary) and Thomas (Kyle) along with beloved grandchildren: Bethany Nine- Lawson (Dereke), Cathleen Nine- Altevogt (Colin), Alexandra Nine (Al), Andrew Nine, and great-grandchildren Solomon and Caroline Altevogt .
Born in North Webster, Indiana, Philip graduated as valedictorian from Syracuse High School in 1952. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. Following his service, he graduated with both BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. Later, Philip returned to Purdue and earned a PhD in engineering. He enjoyed a long career working as an engineer at Bell Labs, Curtis Dyna and Neff Engineering. After earning his PhD he taught electrical engineering technology at Purdue and was self-employed as an accident investigator.
Philip was devoted to caring for his wife, sharing his love of music, and serving his God. Involved in various Christian church congregations, Philip sang in the church choir at E. 38th Street Christian Church and was a founder of the Purdue Christian Campus House ministry as well as helping to start Keystone Christian Church. He was also an active member of the Strategic World Evangelism Board.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 7, at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home in Lafayette, Indiana with calling at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Philip may be made to Strategic World Evangelism PO 361136 Indianapolis, Indiana 46236
