Nancy Marko, age 91, passed away on September 12. Born on March 26, 1935, in Earl Park, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late William and Alpha Nichols. Nancy was a graduate of Ambia High School and a longtime member of Ambia United Methodist Church.
Nancy dedicated 29 years of service to Benton Central School Corporation, where she took great joy in preparing school lunches and nurturing connections with students in the cafeteria. When asked why she remained in a position that was not particularly lucrative, Nancy explained it afforded her the same schedule as her children, enabling her to be home when they were home— testament to her devotion as a mother. Later, after her children graduated from high school, Nancy transferred to Boswell Elementary to be closer to her grandchildren when needed.
Nancy loved gardening and, as summer approached each year, she filled her porch with vibrant geraniums and marigolds. Alongside her flowers, friends and family could always find a tray of "scotcharoos” , the favorite treat for family and friends.
Nancy is survived by her three sons: Michael (Jennifer) of Texas, Jeffrey (Audrey) of Tab, and Gary (Vicki) of Greenwood; and ten grandchildren: Bridgett (BJ Smith, Kandi (Branden) Nobbe, Peggy (Andrew) Tetrault, Jared (Nancy) Zywiec, Faith (Katie) Herrick, Bailey (Christy) Marko, Lucas Marko, Jason Dalton, Justin (Kallee) Dalton, Jordan Dalton; 23 Great grandchildren and 2 Great Great-grandchildren. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Marko, son Stevie, daughter Christine Dalton, granddaughter Karrie Marko Jarred, and grandson TJ Marko.
Nancy will be remembered for her kindness, dedication to family, and her unwavering presence in the lives of her loved ones.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to the Alzheimer's Group for the guidance and support they provided to Bridgett Smith, beloved granddaughter and dedicated caregiver. Their compassionate assistance, including emotional encouragement, helpful advice on caregiving practices, and setting expectations, offered much-needed comfort during Bridgett's time caring for her grandmother.
Visitation will be held at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home in Oxford, Indiana, on Friday, September 18, from 11-12 pm with funeral services immediately following. The burial will be held at Boswell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association 225 N Michigan Ave. Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
