Mary Winger-Sherfey

January 21, 1925 — March 8, 2015

Mary F. Winger-Sherfey of Linden died on Sunday March 8, 2015 at Wellbrooke Healthcare in Crawfordsville, IN. Mary Frances, as she was known by her friends and family, was born on the McBee family farm near Linden on January 21, 1925 to Isaac C. and Hallie Henderson McBee.
She married Alvin R. Winger also in the farm house of her parents on February 10, 1946. In addition to being a loyal farm wife and helping on the family farm, she also had a professional career. She worked at Tipmont REMC, Purdue University, Linden High School, Monsanto fertilizer plant at Romney and Cargill, Inc.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Alvin R. Winger, her second husband, Gene Sherfey, son Phillip, daughter-in-law Jan Winger and brothers Marvin McBee and Harold Frederick McBee.
She is survived by sons, Rodger Winger (Debbie) of Coatesville, IN and Keith Winger (Laurie) of South Bend, IN; Brother Walter McBee (Betty) of Darlington, IN, Sister-in law Barbara McBee, Linden; Grandchildren Jason Winger (Jennifer), Melissa Ridgley (Eric) & Megan Winger all of Lafayette, Dale Winger (Nicholle) Conroe, TX, Amanda O'Kane (Johnny) Arlington, VA, Ashley Riggs-Zeigen (Adam) San Diego, CA, Katie Winger, South Bend and Allison Winger, Indianapolis, IN; 13 great grandchildren and 13 nieces & nephews.
She was a member of the Linden United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the Banner Class and served on numerous committees; Order of the Eastern Star; 4 M's and she was a regular member of the Tuesday morning coffee club with her friends. She and Alvin were members of a bridge club for many years with their friends in the Linden community and she continued to enjoy bridge with many of her friends after his passing.
With the exception of a few short years when she and Alvin lived on a farm in Tippecanoe Co, she was a lifelong resident of Madison Township.
Friends may call at the Linden United Methodist Church from 4 until 7 PM Thursday. Funeral services will be held at the Linden United Methodist Church 10:30 AM Friday Pastor Mindy Huffman officiating, with interment to follow at Linden Cemetery.
