Marlene F. Farrell

Aug 26, 1936 — Oct 3, 2026

Lafayette

Marlene F. Farrell, age 90, passed peacefully to her eternal rest on October 3, 2026, with her loving sister Connie and niece Mary Lou by her side.

Marlene was born in Lafayette on August 26, 1936, and was a lifelong resident of Lafayette. She was determined to celebrate her 90th birthday, which she bravely achieved in spite of her illness, surrounded by family and friends.

Marlene graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School, and then went to work in the Blood Bank at the Home Hospital. She worked her way up from washing glassware, including working in histology, to being the certified Supervisor of the Blood Bank, having devoted more than 40 years to her work.

Marlene was a champion bowler in her younger years, winning many trophies with her team “The Night Owls”. As a very talented artist, she designed their team logo. The walls of the hospital lab were also often graced with her wonderful artwork to celebrate special holidays like Christmas ( which was her favorite season). Walt Disney would have loved her renditions of various characters.

She then used her artistic talent to become a ceramics guru, creating magnificent quality pieces, which she joyfully and generously gifted to family and friends. Those same talents were used to repaint and repair statues at St Lawrence Church, where she was a very active and devoted parishioner.

Marlene became heavily involved in the work of the St. Lawrence Church community after her retirement, and lead the St Jude prayer group for many years. She also made monthly donations to the St Jude’s Children Hospital for over 50 years.

Marlene never forgot a birthday or special event, and family and friends knew to expect a beautiful card in the mail, as reliable as clockwork, to acknowledge it. We will all miss that meticulous, personal touch that she brought to everything!

Marlene is pre-deceased by her parents, her brother and two sisters. She is survived by her sister Connie, her niece Mary Lou ( Mal) and grand-nieces, Heather, Hayden and Maryon and their families.

The family want to thank the compassionate and loving care of Redcrest Hospice, who were the angels who kept her comfortable and at peace, and to the St Lawrence Community who were always by her side, ready to help her.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 9, from 11:00 AM until rosary at 11:30 AM and the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 12:00 PM all at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette, IN. If friends wish to make a donation, Marlene was devoted to both St Lawrence Church and St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home of Lafayette is honored to serve the Farrell family.
