Mark Thiel

Mark A. Thiel, 69, of Lafayette, died at 10:10 AM Friday March 25, 2016 in his residence. Mark was born in Gary, IN November 1, 1946, the son of the late John W. and Joyce Ida Hansvold Thiel, II. He was a 1964 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School and received his Bachelor's Degree in Communications from Purdue University. Mark was a home improvement contractor, and later served as a substitute teacher. He enjoyed music and going fishing, and was a social justice activist, especially for the incarcerated. Surviving are two daughters, Kelly Thiel of Lafayette; Rachel Thiel of South Bend, IN; three brothers, John W. Thiel, III of Lafayette, IN; Eric Thiel (wife Jan) of West Lafayette, IN and Kurt Thiel (wife Anu) of Noblesville, IN. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Serena and Aspen Thiel. A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tippecanoe County, 333 Meridian St, West Lafayette, IN 47906 at 2:00 PM Sunday April 3.
