Marjorie Mason

Marjorie G. Mason, 92, of Lafayette, died at Heritage Helathcare Center in West Lafayette 5:27 AM Wednesday July 17, 2013 where she had been a patient the past two years. She was born June 30, 1921 in Crawfordsville, IN. the daughter of the late L.P. and Nell Swank Shortridge. Marj graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1939, and attended Indiana State at Terre Haute.
On December 4, 1943 she married Leroy R. "Skip" Mason, and he preceded her in death September 28, 1991. Marj played french horn in one of the Women's Army Corps bands during World War II and was an accomplished player of the violn and viola, having performed with the Indianapolis Philharmonic Orchestra, the Genesee Symphony Orchestra in Batavia, NY. and the Wabash College Chamber Orchestra. Marj loved the Lord and was fully involved in whichever church she and Skip attended in the many places they lived. Marj loved to play bridge, and she cheerfully tolerated playing euchre.
Surviving are three sons, Michael of New Windsor, NY.; Charles (wife Rose) of Lafayette, IN.; and John (wife Bethany) of Lafayette, IN; two sister-in-laws, Charlene Shortridge of Prarie Village, KS. and Martha Larkin of New Port Richey, FL. ; four grandchildren, Kim Colandrea (husband Lou), Kristin Green (husband Mike),Thomas Mason (wife Katie) and Daniel Mason, (wife Amber) along with seven great-grandchildren, Logan and Cal Colandrea, Greyson, Cameron, and Amelia Mason, Lyndi and Liam Mason and a countless nember of treasured friends from everywhere she lived.
Beside her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Robert; a sister Mary Jane Shortridge, who died in young adulthood.
Family and friends are invited to an informal gathering, with food and memories, at the home of John Mason, 314 Buckingham Dr., Lafayette, IN. at 1:00 PM Sunday July 28.
