Margaret D. “Peggy” Coffman, 85 of Lafayette, passed away at IU Arnett Hospital 7:54 PM Thursday May 10, 2018 after suffering a stroke on Monday. Peggy was born in Crawfordsville, IN November 30, 1932, the daughter of the late Glen Max and Dorothy Mae Sims Burk and was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School. Her first marriage was to Richard L. Switzer, Sr. and they later divorced. She then married Richard D. Coffman March 18, 1963 at Franklin, IN and he survives. Peggy was employed at many different jobs around the country while her husband served in the military, including serving as sales manager for LaSalle Extension. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Lafayette; was a former member of the Toastmistress Club while she resided in Los Angeles, and was a former Girl Scout leader in the US and in Germany where she helped the Girl Scouts organize the first Christmas Parade in Darmstadt, Germany. Surviving with her husband is a daughter, Susan Prekar of Seattle, WA; three sons, Jon Coffman of West Lafayette; Cory Coffman of Fowler and Andrew Coffman of Oxford; a sister, Maxine Brewer of Lafayette and a brother, George T. Burk of Connersville, IN. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Richard L. Switzer, Jr., Kenneth Dale Switzer and a sister, Mary Jane Wycoff. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, Oxford from 12:00 PM until the funeral service at 1:00 PM Monday May 14, Pastor Linda Sproull officiating. The interment will follow at Oxford West Cemetery. Those desiring may contribute in Peggy’s memory to the Girl Scouts of America.
