Louise Halsmer

Louise Florence Halsmer, 94, of St. Petersburg, FL and formerly of Lafayette, died at Bon Secours Helathcare Center in St Petersburg 9:22 PM Sunday August 23, 2015. Louise was born in Chicago, IL December 20, 1920, the daughter of the Late Louis and Rose Sarno Vacca and was a graduate of Manley High School in Chicago. She enlisted in the Women's Army Corps and served during World War II from 1945 until 1946 with Sq. D, 3543rd Army Air Force Base Unit. Louise married Francis P. Halsmer in Chicago, IL July 13, 1946 and he preceded her in death October 13, 2011. Louise served as secretary for Halsmer Airport and Flying Service in Lafayette. She was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis at St. Boniface and active in CCW. Louise loved her music and playing the piano along with writing poetry. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Lafayette and while in St. Petersburg, FL was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. Surviving are two daughters, Pat Bush (husband Jim of Lafayette; Roseanne Halsmer of St. Petersburg, FL; and by two sons, Louis J. Halsmer (wife Judy) of Frankfort, IN and James Halsmer (wife Cynnie) of Indianapolis, IN. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Avalon Barretto. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette with the Rosary at 3:45 PM Sunday followed by visitation from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church 10:00 AM Monday, Fr. Mark Walter officiating, with interment to follow at St. Boniface Cemetery with American Legion Post 11 military rites.
