Linda R. McLean, a beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away on September 6, 2025, in Lafayette, Indiana, at the age of 77. She was born in Memphis, TN on August 30, 1948, to the late Roy & Willie Jean Castleberry. After losing her biological father early in life, she was lovingly raised by C.A. Miller, who became a devoted father figure and an irreplaceable part of her life.
Linda graduated from Fountain Central High School in 1967. During her high school years, she was known for her adventurous spirit, often participating in drag races alongside the boys, a testament to her vibrant personality. Shortly after graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Stephen D. McLean- a bond that would last a lifetime.
Linda's career started as a manager at Shoney's Restaurant, where she displayed her natural leadership skills. She later transitioned to Wabash National, retiring as a cafeteria manager. Linda was deeply respected by those who had the pleasure of working alongside her and always putting her heart into everything she did.
An outdoors enthusiast, Linda cherished time spent in the sunshine and found joy in tending to her flower garden. She had a profound love for both mountains and the beach, creating lasting family traditions by taking her grandkids on trips reminiscent of the ones her children experienced during their youth. The bond she forged with her family, especially her grandchildren, demonstrated her unwavering love by always being there for them.
Linda’s family includes her beloved daughter, Cara McLean-Rolfes (Rob) of Lafayette, her sisters Debbie Swingle of Veedersburg and Carla Miller of Covington, and her niece and nephew, Christy Nickle of Veedersburg and Chad Swingle of Miami, FL. Above all, Linda was a family woman. She loved her family dearly, and had immense pride for each of her grandchildren—Grayson McLean of Indianapolis, Reese McLean-Rolfes of Lafayette, and James Mowery of Pennsylvania. She would move mountains for them, demonstrating a cherished relationship filled with love, laughter, and shared memories.
Though she leaves behind grieving hearts, Linda is reunited with her parents, her husband, Stephen, and her daughter, Michelle. Linda R. McLean will be remembered for her spicy, passionate nature, and her dedication to her family. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved her.
