Lewis W. Owen, 88, of Lafayette, died at St. Elizabeth Central 9:05 AM Saturday May 21, 2011. He had been residing at the Digby House the past 3 years. He was born June 19, 1922 near Linden in Montgomery County, IN., the son of the late Paul A. and Anna Mae Petrie Owen. Mr. Owen was a graduate of Linden High School, attended Purdue University, and was a graduate of Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, IL. He married Hildegard Davies at Hillsboro, IL July 14, 1953, and she preceded him in death February 9, 2005. Mr. Owen was a twenty year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1967, and later worked for IBM as a customer service engineer for 20 years. While in the military, Mr. Owen was able to visit many religious shrines and holy places in Europe, and also met Pope Pius Xii while in Rome. Mr. Owen was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lafayette. Surviving is a son, George R. Owen (wife Janice) of Plano, TX.; 2 daughters, Stephanie Yantis (husband Stephen) of Lafayette; Theresa McClure (husband Paul) of Carrollton, VA.; and a brother, Lynn Owen of Chicago, IL. Also surviving is a grandson, Andrew S. Yantis of Lafayette, IN. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Shirley Owen and Geraldine Erwin. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUENRAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from the Rosary at 4:45 PM until 7 PM Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Thursday, St. Ann's Catholic Church, Fr. Dominic Young officiating. Entombment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with American Legion Military Rites.
