Leona Richard

Leona W. Richard, 100 of Lafayette, died at St. Mary's Healthcare in Lafayette 12:15 A.M. Friday September 26, 2008. Born in Lafayette October 22, 1907, the daughter of the late Charles F. and Lillie L. Stierle Zipp, she was a lifelong Lafayette resident. She married Elbert L. Richard in April 1927, and he preceded her in death February 1973. Mrs. Richard was a graduate of St. Ignatsius Academy, and a lifelong member of St Lawrence Catholic Church. She had worked for the State of Indiana as a local driver examiner, and later was employed at St. Elizabeth Hospital as a clerk in the emergency room, retiring in 1972. Surviving are 3 daughters, Doris J. Wyant of Lafayette; Eleanor L. Dexter (husband Ronald) of Lafayette; and Madonna C. Ruppert, Lafayette; and by 3 sons, Leslie E. Richard (wife Lorraine) of Vincennes, IN.; Ronald L. Richard (wife Rose) of Poland, IN.; and Gerald T. "Jerry" Richard of Lafayette. Friends may call at St. Lawrence Catholic Church from10:30 A.M.until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, Father Dan Duff officiating. Interment St. Boniface Cemetery. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, 32 great-great-grandchildren and 14 step-great-great-grandchildren.
