Lawrence O'Connor

Lawrence Walter O'Connor, 87, of Fullerton California, formerly of Lafayette, died at his residence in Fullerton 6:42 A.M. Thursday July 3, 2008 after a lengthy illness. He had resided in Fullerton the past 5 years. Mr. O'Connor was born October 17, 1920 in Lafayette the son of the late Lawrence A. and Florence Schrader O'Connor, attended St. Lawrence Grade School, graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School, and attended Purdue University. He married Nora K. Harris at St. Michael's Church in New York February 14, 1942 and she survives. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving in WWII, was a life member of American Legion Post 11 of Lafayette, a life member of VFW Post 1154 of Lafayette, the Navy Club, Ship 12 of Lafayette, and was involved with Operation Skywatch at Cairo during the 1950's. Mr. O'Connor had worked at the Monon Shops as a mechanical engineer until they closed, and later worked at National Homes and later retired from St. Elizabeth Hospital as housekeeping administrator. Surviving with his wife are 3 daughters, Kathleen Robertson (husband Don) of Fullerton, CA.; Janet Izquierdo (husband Rolland) of Lancaster, CA.; Mary Olsovsky (husband William) of Hermosa Beach, CA.; 5 sons, Lawrence R. O'Connor (wife Ellen) of Marengo, IL.; Don O'Connor (wife Alana) of Crystal Lake, IL.; Patrick O'Connor of Chalmers, IN.; Tim O'Connor (wife Georgia) of Lafayette, IN.; John O'Connor (wife Lori) of West Lafayette, ON.; a brother Patrick O'Connor of Youngsville, N.C. .; and 2 sisters Mary Gordon of Daphne, AL.; and Bernadine Tanner of San Diego, CA.
Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNEAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St., from the Rosary at 4:45 P.M. until 8 P.M. Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Catholic Church 10:00 A.M. Friday, Fr. Dan Duff officiating. Interment St. Boniface Cemetery with VFW Post 1154 military rites. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
