Lawrence Lahrman

Lawrence J. "Larry" Lahrman, 89, of Lafayette, IN. died at his residence early Sunday morning July 20, 2014. Larry was born near Dayton, IN. in Tippecanoe County December 15, 1924, the son of the late Lawrence C. and Lena Hege Lahrman. He was a 1942 graduate of Dayton High School, and attended Purdue University. Larry joined the U. S. Navy on September 21, 1943 and did his basic training and attended hospital corpsman school at Great Lakes, IL. After further training at U.S. Navy Hospitals in New Orleans, LA and Corpus Christi, TX, he served on the USS Hector (AR-7) from August 1944 in the South Pacific area until his discharge on March 25, 1946 as a Pharmacists Mate 2/C. Following his discharge from the Navy, he graduated from Indiana Business College in 1948, and was employed by General Telephone until 1953. He then was employed by National Homes Acceptance Corporation until 1971, when he joined Lafayette Bank and Trust, retiring as Senior Lending Officer and Senior Vice President December 31, 1986. Mr. Lahrman was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church; several organizations over the years, including the Home Builders Association; Lafayette Board of Realtors; American Legion Post 11; Dayton High School and Purdue University Alumni Associations; past president of the Property Tax Assessment Board of Appeals for eight years and was an avid Purdue University sports fan. He married Marjorie Ann Isfalt June 29, 1948 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Kathleen M. Dienhart (husband Wayne) of Lafayette; Julie A. McKinsey (husband Robert) of Lafayette; a son, David L. Lahrman of North Webster, IN.; two brothers, Joseph V. Lahrman of Mulberry, IN. and John D. "Jack" Lahrman of Dayton, IN.; and a sister, Peggy A. Ritchie of Anderson, IN. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Jeffrey W. Dienhart (Valerie) and Daniel B. Dienhart (Alesa) all of Lafayette; Erick T. Dienhart, Dallas, TX; Kyle J. McKinsey, Lafayette; and Kari A. Trinkle (Rob) of West Lafayette; and by four great-grandchildren, Alicia N. Fehnel (Daniel), Chalmers, IN; Andrew L., Adam D. and Evan T. Dienhart all of Lafayette; and by one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by an infant great-grandson and by one brother and three sisters. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from the Rosary at 3:45 with visitation following until 7:00 PM Tuesday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday in St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Fr. Eric Underwood officiating with the interment to follow at St. Boniface Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to St. Lawrence Catholic Church or the Tyler Jeffrey (TJ) Dienhart Scholarship Fund at Lafayette Central Catholic High School.
