Lawrence Batta

Lawrence L. Batta, 86. of Lafayette, died at St. Mary's Healthcare Center in Lafayette 11:35 AM Saturday October 1, 2011, where he had been a patient since February 10, 2011. Mr. Batta was born in White County, IN. the son of the late Anthony B. and Elizabeth Halsema Batta. He attended Battle Gound Schools and Lafayette Business College. He married R. Janette McCain in Lafayette January 11, 1947, and she survives. Mr. Batta was the former owner and operator of McKee Overhead Doors in Lafayette, and retired in 1987. He was a life-long member of St. Boniface Catholic Church; did volunteer work at St. Elizabeth Medical Center and was a member of the Lafayette Square Dance Club, and enjoyed camping and woodworking. Surviving beside his wife are 2 daughters, Marilyn King (husband Robert); Teresa Riehle (husband John), both of Lafayette, IN.; 4 sons, Larry Batta (wife Janet) of Lafayette, IN.; Steve Batta (wife Tammy) of Reynolds, IN.; Jeff Batta (wife Janet) of Lafayette, IN. and Doug Batta of Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 6 sisters. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St. from the Rosary at 4:45 until 8:00 PM Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Wednesday, St. Boniface Catholic Church, Fr. Jeff Martin officiating, with interment to follow at St. Boniface Cemetery. If friends desire, memorials may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church; Tippecanoe County Right to Life; Lafayette Catholic Schools or to the Alzheimers Foundation.
