Katsuko Nelson

Katsuko F. "Kris" Nelson, 82, of Lafayette, died at St. Mary's Healthcare Center 12:35 AM Tuesday March 24, 2009, where she had been a patient for the past 15 months. She was born August 27, 1926 in Moji, Japan the daughter of the late Kyuichi and Suzuyo Ito Furuya, and was educated in Japan. Mrs. Nelson came to the United States in 1956, and has resided in Lafayette the past 39 years. For thirty years, she had worked at what is now known as St. Mary's Healthcare in Lafayette as an environmental supervisor. Surviving is a daughter, Patricia A. Nelson of Lafayette; 2 sons, Karl L. Nelson (companion Judy Thomas) of Chesterton, IN. and Kenneth E. Nelson (wife Tonya) of Lafayette; and a brother Hisao Furuya of Moji, Japan. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Mike, Steve, Daniel, Brandon, Ty and Kristin; and 6 great-grandchildren, Austin, Kirsten, Hannah, Jacob, Kristian and Zachary. She was preceded in death by 1 brother and 1 sister. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from noon until the service at 1:00 P.M. Monday, Fr. Ambrose Ziegler officiating. Interment in Meadow View Cemetery.
