Kathryn Mecklenburg

Kathryn J. Mecklenburg, 82, of Lafayette, died at Franciscan Health, St. Elizabeth East emergency room at 9:03 PM Tuesday October 4, 2011 suddenly and unexpectedly. Mrs. Mecklenburg was born in Crawfordsville, IN. July 3, 1929, the daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Hatch Gillis, and was a graduate of Crawfordsville High School. She married Charles L. Mecklenburg in Lafayette June 7, 1952 and he survives. Mrs. Mecklenburg was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church; a charter member and past-president of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, Aerie 347; and a member of VFW Post 1154 Ladies Auxiliary. She had worked for the City of Lafayette 20 years as a secretary, first in the fire department for the chief, and later in the street department. Surviving with her husband is a daughter, Mary Ann Grove (husband Chuck) of Lafayette, IN.; 2 sons, Thomas R. Mecklenburg (wife Debbie) and David L. Mecklenburg (wife Tammy) both of Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Gillis. The Rosary service will be held at 4:30 PM, followed by visitation from 5 to 8 PM Friday at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Saturday, St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Fr. Dan Gartland and Fr. Eric Underwood officiating, with interment in St. Boniface Cemetery.
