Jules Lerzak

Jules J. Lerzak, 86, of Lafayette, died at Rosewalk Village Healthcare Center in Lafayette 4:15 PM Sunday November 7, 2010. Mr. Lerzak was born in Fairport, New York February 6, 1924, the son of Joseph A. and Mary M. Zagata Lerzak. He was a 1942 graduate of Fairport, NY High School, and Purdue University in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. He married Grace Ann Thornbrough in Lafayette, IN. December 19, 1953, and she preceded him in death September 15, 1988. He later married Joan Benner Ewalt November 14, 1998 and she survives. Mr. Lerzak was employed at Walter Scholer & Associates, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral; a 50 year member of the Serra Club; a member of Tau Epsilon Fraternity; was a former Boy Scout leader; a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers; the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, and was a past president of the Indianapolis Chapter. Mr. Lerzak also was a member of the Eagles; Moose Lodge; American Legion Post 11; VFW Post 1154, and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 until 1945. Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Julie G. Males of Lafayette, IN.; 2 sons, Timothy S. Lerzak (wife Mary) of Indianapolis, IN.; Matthew G. Lerzak (wife Paula) of Evanston, IL.; and a brother, Joseph Lerczak of Fairport, New York. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Christopher, Peter, Braeden and Peyton. He was preceded indeath by 2 sisters, Helen DeLong and Virginia Lerczak. Friends may call from 4 until 7 PM Wednesday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with Candlelight Vespers service at 7 PM Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Cathedral 11:00 AM Thursday, Bishop Timothy L. Doherty, Celebrant, Bishop Emeritus William L. Higi Concelebrant, and Fr. Richard J.Weisenberger, Homilist, officiating. Friends may best express sympathy with memorials to Central Catholic High School Foundation.
