Joseph Weaver

July 4, 1925 — September 19, 2014

Joseph Aaron Weaver, 89, of Linden, died at 4:35 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2014 at St. Elizabeth East hospital, Lafayette, from complications brought on by infection. Born July 4, 1925, in Odon, Indiana, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Ethel Jolliff Weaver. He served in World War II from Oct 1943 to Oct 1945 in Company H, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division as a heavy machine gunner in southern France. He received a medical discharge. He was a longtime area resident, and graduated from Purdue University with a BS in electrical engineering. On Nov. 6, 1949, he married Rebecca Jane Fraley in Linden. She preceded him in death soon after their 60th wedding anniversary, at the age of 82.Mr. Weaver was an electrical engineer and quality assurance manager at the Honeywell/GE Oklahoma City computer manufacturing plant prior to retirement, which brought the family back to Linden in 1986. He was active in the Linden United Methodist Church and served on numerous committees. He was also treasurer and on the boards of the Linden Madison Township Historical Society and the Linden Cemetery Board. He was an active model railroader at the Linden Depot, a member of the Indianapolis Bonsai Club for many years, and a 50 year member of the Masons. Surviving is a daughter, Martha Jo Weaver of Linden. Also surviving is his daughter-in-law, Kathy Weaver of Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Fraley Weaver. Seen as a father figure by many area men, he is survived by his 'adopted son', Curt Hudson of Linden. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Linden United Methodist Church and one half hour before services at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Pastor Mindy Huffman officiating. Interment to follow at Linden Cemetery with military rites by Crawfordsville American Legion Post 72.
