Joseph Anthrop, Sr

Joseph Anthony "Joe" Anthrop, Sr., 76, of West Point, died at the Waters of Williamsport 10:54 PM Sunday April 5, 2009. Mr. Anthrop had been a patient there for the past 2 months and in failing health the past 3 years. Born in Lafayette May 22, 1932, the son of the late George and Marietta Buntin Anthrop, he attended St. Ann's and Klondike Schools. Mr. Anthrop married Jacquelyne "Jackie" Burnette at St. Mary's Cathedral in Lafayette February 15, 1958, and she survives. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, and was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church. Mr. Anthrop was involved in stock car racing in his younger years, and was a member of the United States Trotting Association. He raced and trained harness horses for 40 years, and farmed in Tippecanoe County all of his life. Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Brinda Goans (husband Dennis) of West Point, IN.; 4 sons, Joseph A. "Tony" Anthrop, Jr. (companion Nancy Stevens of Frankfort, IN.; Mark Anthrop (wife Michelle) and David Anthrop (wife Connie, both of West Point, IN. and Ross Anthrop (wife Veronica) of Oxford, IN.; 4 sisters, Barbara Wagner of Lafayette; Sister Jane Anthrop, O.F.M. of Lafayette; Pat Kingma (husband Wayne) of Battle Ground, IN. and Lois Klinkhammer of Brookston, IN.; and 3 brothers, Edwin Anthrop of West Point, IN.; Harold Anthrop (wife Jane) of West Point, IN. and Robert Anthrop (wife Marilyn) of Battle Ground, IN. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by 1 sister and 5 brothers. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from the Rosary at 4:45 PM until 8 PM today, Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial 1:30 PM Wednesday, St. Ann's Catholic Church, Fr. Tim Alkire officiating. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery.
