West Lafayette

John C. Strubel, a loving husband, accomplished engineer, and devoted Catholic, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, at Westminster Village. Born on May 20, 1935, in Lafayette, Indiana, to the late Carl & Loretta Strubel.

John’s early years were marked by his education at Lafayette Jefferson High School, from which he graduated in 1953. Continuing his academic journey, John earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1957, setting the foundation for a lifelong career marked by dedication and skill.

In 1960, John began his professional life with Delco Electronics Corporation, a division of General Motors, located in Kokomo, Indiana. His tenure there spanned more than three decades, culminating in his retirement in 1993. His career was characterized by commitment and expertise, mirroring the integrity and work ethic he exhibited in all aspects of his life.

John found profound joy and fulfillment in his family life. In November of 1977, he married Janet (Moore) Shirk, embracing her daughter Kim (married to Ron) Miller as his own. John and Janet’s family grew to include grandchildren Jayme (married to Dave) Haas, Trevor (married to Megan) Miller, and Mason (married to Tina) Miller, along with five great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons, enriching John’s life with their presence and achievements. He took great pride in his role as a grandpa, cherishing the opportunity to watch the next generations flourish. Additionally, he was surrounded by the affection of numerous nieces and nephews.

John was known for his mischievous sense of humor and kind nature—he loved to help people and spent a significant part of his life going above and beyond to help neighbors, friends, and family. He was not only a good listener but also an active participant in his community. His contributions included past membership in the Rossville Lions Club and a pivotal role as a past board director for Milner Community Healthcare, where he served six years with dedication. His faith and community involvement were further reflected in his active membership at St. Mary’s Cathedral.

His hobbies and interests brought him joy and relaxation, notably spending cherished time with family, engaging in gardening, woodworking projects, yard work, and golf.

John was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Carl and Loretta Strubel, and his brother, Charlie Strubel, whose memories he carried with him throughout his life.
