John "Jack" J. Horan Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.
Jack was born to John J. Horan Sr. and Margaret T. Greenan Horan. He grew up in Illinois and attended Marian High School. During his senior year, he transferred to Thornridge High School, where he met the love of his life, Ann G. Horan. They shared 58 wonderful years of marriage and raised three children together. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp for 6 years after high school.
Jack spent most of his working life with the Iowa 80 Group, serving the company in various roles over the years. He began his career at the Truck-O-Mat in South Holland, Illinois, before relocating to the Truck-O-Mat in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1991, Jack returned to South Holland, and in 1995 he became General Manager of Iowa 80 Truckstop in Walcott, IA, the World's Largest Truckstop. He remained there until his retirement in 2011, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and leadership.
Above all, Jack cherished time spent with his family. He enjoyed gardening and had a true gift for making and building things with his hands. A skilled craftsman, he took pride in creating and fixing, always willing to lend his talents to others. Jack was known for his compassion, fairness, and great sense of humor. He was a thoughtful listener who generously offered advice and support, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jack is preceded in death by his father John J. Horan Sr., mother Margaret T. Greenan Horan, brother Dennis P. Horan, sons Michael F.Horan and Michael J. Horan.
Surviving is his wife Ann G. Fitzpatrick Horan, daughter Bridget (John) Anaya, son Nathan (Natalie) Horan, daughter-in- law Claudia Horan, grandchildren Emily, Liam, and Isabella Horan, and Xander Anaya.
A visitation will be held from 10:30-11:30 AM on Friday, January 30th at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette, followed by a Rosary at 11:30 AM and a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow in Spring Vale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Toys for Tots (Marine Corps Reserve)- Donate here .
