John Iii

John H. Boes, III,"The Ole Salt Man" 79 of Lafayette and Delphi, IN. died at Indiana University Arnett Hospital 7:50 PM Monday November 12, 2012 where he had been a patient since last Wednesday. He had been in ill health the past eighteen months. John was born in Lafayette May 23, 1933, the son of the late John H. Boes, Jr. and Dorethea J. Taylor Boes and was a graduate of Buck Creek High School.
Mr. Boes married Esther L. Deephouse at St. Lawrence Church in Lafayette January 31, 1959, and she survives. John had resided in Lafayettte most all of his life, and had spent twenty five years in Dephi, with he and Ester recently moving back to Lafayette.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi, and St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette and the Knights of Columbus and Moose Lodge in Lafayette.
John was a firefighter with the Lafayette Fire Department from 1964 until he retired in 1986 with the rank of captain. He was also owner/operator of John Boes Water Care from 1981 until 2004.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Pamela L. Thomas (husband Ronnie W.) of Lafayette; Theresa A. Meyer of Lafayette; 6 sons, Ed Boes (companion Carrie New), Mark Boes (wife RaeLynn); Michael L. Boes; Steven Boes; and Larry W. Boes (wife Katrina) all of Lafayette; and Kevin J. Boes (companion Lisa) of Brookston, IN.; and by 2 brothers, Jerry Boes of Crawfordsville, IN. and George Boes (companion Kay) of Nashville, TN. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St. from the Rosary at 4:30 until 8:00 PM Friday, with the Firemen's Last Alarm Service at 7:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Catholic Church 10:30 AM Saturday, with Fr. Dan Gartland officiating, with interment following at St. Boniface Cemetery.
