John Aschenberg

John F. Aschenberg, 77, of Lafayette, died at Seton Specialty Hospital at St. Elizabeth Central 4:00 AM Wednesday September 28, 2011. Mr. Aschenberg had been in failing health since March. He was born in Lafayette October 14, 1933, the son of the late Maurice and Helen Dienhart Aschenberg, attended St. Boniface School and was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School. Mr. Aschenberg served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Norma L. Moss in Lafayette May 17, 1958, and she survives. Mr. Aschenberg was employed by Sears as a service technician for 27 years, and had previously had worked for Haywood Publishing for 17 years. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, and served as an usher at the church for 55 years; was a member of the American Legion, Post 11; the 40 & 8, Voiture 364; VFW Post 1154; a member of the Studebaker Drivers Club and the Monon Railroad Society. Surviving with his wife is a son, Michael Aschenberg (wife Loria) of Lafayette. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren Stephanie, Heidi, Hannah and Michael. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Rita Kline and Helen Grogan and a brother, William Aschenberg. Friends may call from the Rosary at 2:45 PM until 6:00 PM Sunday at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Monday, St. Boniface Catholic Church, Fr. Jeff Martin officiating, with interment in St. Boniface Cemetery with American Legion Post 11 graveside rites.
