Joan Morgan

November 18, 1931 — March 2, 2009

The family of Joan Augustine Morgan serves notice to the world of her passing this 2nd day of March 2009. She died in her home surrounded by love.

Joan was born to Leo H. Cyr and Zoe A. Cyr (Senesac) on November 18, 1931. Joan graduated from Ball State with a degree in art education and taught for a year in Indianapolis before she met and married John W. Morgan (deceased) on January 29, 1955. They were married 51 years before John's death in 2006. They raised four children, John Cyr Morgan (deceased), Cynthia Hand, Colleen Mraz, and Patrick Morgan.

After college Joan taught art at Central Catholic for a few years in the 1960's but spent much of her career teaching in the Benton County Schools. Many students came through Mrs. Morgan's art classes and were encouraged by her to continue their artistic pursuits. In addition Joan taught the art of refinishing furniture through the adult education classes at Benton Central. For many years Joan and John owned and operated Morgan's Antique Shop on Washington Ave. in Fowler and were instrumental in establishing the annual flea market on the 4th of July in the town park of Fowler. Joan also completed her Masters of Art degree from Purdue University in 1975. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church of Fowler. Other membership include Tri Kappa

Joan retired from teaching in 1979 and went on to pursue antique appraising in Michigan where she and John lived for several years. They returned to Indiana to live in Zionsville before they retired back in Fowler in 1988.

Preceded in death, by her husband John W. Morgan, firstborn son John C. Morgan and her brother Donald Cyr.


Surviving Joan are three children; Cynthia M. Hand (husband Alan) of Deerfield, New Hampshire, Colleen M. Mraz (husband George) of Lafayette, and Patrick J. Morgan (wife Sheila) of Cave Creek, Arizona. Also surviving is Joan's beloved sister Norma J. Sluyter of Ft. Wayne and many nieces and nephews she treasured.

Joan had 14 grandchildren whom she loved dearly and were always a source of joy to her. John's children: Danielle, Brittnee and Griffin. Cindy's children; Michael and Jacob. Colleen's children: George, Joseph, David, Maggie, Morgan and Ethan. Patrick's children: Zachary, Joshua and Hannah. And two great grandchildren: Madeline and Kamdyn.

Joan spent much of her retired life enjoying her friends and family and traveling as much as she could. She was interested and engaged in life and those around her. Joan spent the last few years of her life being care for by a flock of angels led by Michele Keller. She was loved and will be missed.

Friends may call at 1PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fowler prior to a Funeral Mass at 2:30 PM Friday, Rev. Robert Klemme officiating. Private family graveside service planned.
