Jerald “Jerry” L Scott

On July 28 our dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend unexpectedly passed away and is now dancing eternally with his beloved wife, Pat.  Born October 4, 1930 to Edgar and Inez Scott, his dad was a coach and teacher who instilled a lifelong love of sports. He met Pat (born only three days after Dad) while attending Oxford High School and they married June 12, 1948.  They lived the rest of their lives in Oxford, celebrating their 71st wedding anniversary in 2019 before Mom died on his birthday that year.  Jerry is survived by sons Greg (Cathy) and Jeff, together with the grandchildren he adored and who adored him, Shad (Dina), Casey(Jon Landes), Clint(Beverly), Chris (Jaclyn) and Matt, great grandchildren Oscar, Bailey, Logan, and Sammy, step grandchildren Aaron (deceased), Rich, Jeannette, Emily & Sam, great grandson Carson, also surviving are his older brother Bill (Jean deceased), sister Phyllis (Dick Hughes deceased), and Sharon (Ray Tabert) together with many nieces and nephews.  Brothers Jack (Suzy) and young Johnny Lincoln pre-deceased him.  We especially thank nieces Shirley, Sharon (Larry), Sara and Nina for watching over Dad and Mom the last several years.  Dad worked at Rostone for a few years before going to linotype school and worked many years at the Oxford Printing Company.  He followed that with several years at Payco and Lowe seed corn companies as a district sales manager, during which he and Mom hosted many customer trips to such places as Hawaii, Caribbean cruises and even Monte Carlo.  He loved Indy car racing, attending about fifty Indy 500’s with Mom and then later working as traffic cop in Gasoline Alley.  He concluded his employment by working as the talkative bartender at Attica Hotel when Jeff and Bertie owned it. He also enjoyed all his buddies at Oak Grove Country Club. Perhaps his real vocation was officiating basketball(including sectional, regional and semistate) and baseball(including state finals) for about thirty years.  Dad also assisted his lifelong friend Gene Edmonds in officiating some Purdue track meets over the years.  After retirement, he and Mom spent a few months each winter in south Florida, either on east or west coast, roaming the beaches. Even more important to him and the grandkids, he and Mom had them for weeks in summertime in Oxford at their backyard pool, fishing and golfing and taking them on car trips to exotic places like Wisconsin Dells and Mammoth Cave and to Arnies Pizza.  In virtually every photo of Dad, he was smiling and that’s the way we will always remember him. Visitation will be held at Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home in Oxford, IN on Friday August 4, 2023 from 9:30 am until time of memorial service at 11:00 am officiated by Rev. Laureen Hartig.
