James Thomas Vail, 74, of Crawfordsville, formerly of Linden, died at Hickory Creek Healthcare Center in Crawfordsville 7:00 PM Tuesday June 30, 2009. Born October 30, 1934 in Linden, IN. the son of the late Ernest and Dorothy White Vail, he was a 1952 graduate of Linden High School. Mr. Vail had resided 35 years in Linden, and the past 2 years in Crawfordsville. He married Ruby Ann Henderson at Waveland, IN. December 22, 1956, and she survives. Mr. Vail was a member of the Smartsburg Christian Church; New Richmond Masonic Lodge #624, F & AM; the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie # 1005 at Crawfordsville, and was an avid NASCAR, Chicago White Sox and IU Fan.Mr. Vail had served in the US Army from 1957 until 1959. He had worked at R.R. Donnelley as a receiving clerk, retiring in 1996 after 40 years. Surviving with his wife are 2 brothers, Harlan Vail of Linden, IN.; Marvin "Red" Vail of Crawfordsville, IN. and a sister, Linda Mussche (husband Wayne) of Linden, IN. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, along with several special caregivers. Preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Sayler and a brother Bob Vail. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, Linden from 5 until 8 PM Friday, with Masonic Rites at 7:30 PM Friday. Funeral services at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, Linden 10:30 AM Saturday, Rev. Stephen Blaydes officiating. Interment Linden Cemetery.
