James Goodwine

November 17, 1917 — July 14, 2012

Boswell - James "Malcolm" Goodwine, 94, died July 14, 2012 at IU Arnett Hospital.
The son of Coburn and Pearl (Walls) Goodwine, Malcolm was born on a farm in Warren County on November 17, 1917 with help from a doctor that arrived by horse and buggy.
In his early years Malcolm helped out on the farm plowing fields with a horse-drawn plow. In 1932, Malcolm helped plant one of the first crops of soybeans in the area.
Malcolm attended Twin Mounds, a one-room school house on SR 26, and went on to graduate from Ambia High School in 1935 where he played basketball and baseball.
In 1945, he established his own farm near Bowell, where he made his home for the next 66 years.
He met his wife of 65 years, Betty Owensby, at the bowling alley in Hoopeston, IL. Malcolm proposed to Betty on Christmas Eve 1945. They married in March 1946 with a ring she had admired in a window on Main Street in Danville, IL.
He was a member of the Boswell United Methodist Church.
For many years, Malcolm and Betty maintained a winter residence in Treasure Island, Florida.
Malcolm was preceded in death by his son Phillip Goodwine, his brothers, Morris and Coburn, and sisters, Imogene Ross and Zelma Igou. He will be missed by his wife Betty, his sister Judy Gross, his son Marty (Pat), his daughters Tricia Holsapple and Julie (Tom) Carey, as well as 8 grandchildren Jordan and Walker Carey ,Matt Holsapple, Nicole, Spencer, Tyler, Grant, and Paxton Goodwine and 2 great-grandchildren, Kiara and Wesley Goodwine.
A memorial service will be held at Locust Grove Church 10:30 AM Saturday, Pastor Chuck Anderson officiating, with inurnment to follow in Locust Grove Cemetery. If friends desire, memorials may be made to the Boswell Ambulance Service. Hahn-Groeber Funeral & Cremation Services, Oxford, is caring for the family.
