Harvey Wolfe

Harvey C. Wolfe, 87, of Oxford, IN. died at Rosewalk Village in Lafayette, IN. Thursday August 4, 2011 at 3:45 PM where he had been a resident since December. Mr. Wolfe was born in Harrison County, IN.,November 13, 1923, the son of the late William J. and Alda Cline Wolfe, and was a 1943 graduate of Oxford High School. He married Phyllis M. Lawson June 1, 1947 in Oxford, and she preceded him in death November 29, 1973. He later married Ruthann Cooley Wolanski October 24, 1974, and she survives. Mr. Wolfe was a general contractor and carpenter, and was the owner of Wolfe Construction, and for many years assisted at the Shipps, Konzelman, Hahn, and now Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home. He served in the US Army Paratroopers during World War II, and in the US Army Artillery during the Korean War. Mr. Wolfe was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Oxford; a life member and past district commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; a former reserve deputy for the Benton County Sheriff's Department; a charter member of the Oxford Lions Club; a member of the Knights of Columbus; and a former member of the Oxford Town Board 14 years, serving 2 years as Town Board President. Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Rhonda Meyer, (husband Mark) of West Lafayette, IN.; 2 step-daughters, Barbara Jones (husband Glen) and Deborah Sheets (husband Bruce) both of Lafayette, IN.; 2 brothers, Ralph E. "Muggs" Wolfe and James Donald Wolfe, both of Oxford, IN. Also surviving are a granddaughter, 1 great-grandson, 4 step-grandsons and 5 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, a brother and a step-grandson. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, Oxford, from noon until the service at 2:00 PM Monday, Fr. Robert Klemme officiating, with interment to follow in Justus Cemetery with military graveside rites. If friends desire, memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
