Fr. Maurice Miller

Father Maurice R. Miller, 89, of Lafayette, IN. died at Franciscan Health, St. Elizabeth East in Lafayette 10:55 AM Wednesday June 1, 2011. He was born in Elwood, IN. March 3, 1922, the son of the late Claude M. and Josephine A. Mack Miller. Father Miller was a graduate of Elwood High School, Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa and St. Meinrad Seminary, St. Meinrad, Indiana. He was ordained July 1, 1949, and was named Associate Pastor at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Lafayette, IN. in 1949. In 1953, he became the first resident Pastor at St. Elizabeth in Lucerne, IN and Chaplain, Logansport State Hospital; in 1958, Pastor at Immaculate Conception parish in Portland; 1967, Pastor, St. John the Evangelist, Hartford City; 1972, Pastor, St. Vincent DePaul, Logansport; 1984, Pastor, St. Patrick, Kokomo; 1994, Senior Associate, St. Ann, Lafayette; and in 2002, he was granted retirement, with residence at St. Ann, Lafayette. He has no immediate survivors, but is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Joseph, Robert and James Hunt; and by 2 sisters, Mary Holiday and Genevieve Burke. Father Miller will lie in state at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Lafayette from 1:00 PM until Vespers Service at 5:00 PM Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Monday at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Bishop Timothy L. Doherty, Celebrant and Bishop William L. Higi and priests of the Diocese of Lafayette as Con-Celebrants of the Mass. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Elwood.
