Frederick Donald "Don" Helm III, 67, of Battle Ground, IN. died at Indiana University Health, Lafayette at 10:09 AM Sunday February 20, 2011. He had been in ill health the past 5 years with cancer. Mr. Helm was born in Lafayette, IN. November 23, 1943, the son of the late Frederick D. and Jane M. Taylor Helm, Jr., and had resided in Battle Ground the past 11 years, moving from Plainfield, IN. He was a graduate of Lafayette Central Catholic High School and was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Lafayette, and enjoyed golf, fishing and camping. Mr. Helm married Janet D. Johnson in Lafayette, IN. July 23, 1962, and she survives. He worked for the Kroger Company 32 years, managing various stores in central Indiana. Surviving with his wife are 2 daughters, Annette Marie Helm of Battle Ground, IN.; Pamela Sue Angle (husband Shawnn) of Logansport, IN.; 2 sons, Bruce Donald Helm (wife Lori) of Carrollton, Texas; Gregory Dean Helm (companion Tina Downs) New Richmond, IN.; and a sister, Carolyn Sue Shoaf (husband Steve) of Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Sarah Jane and Gregory Scott Woods; Emma, Laura, & Libby Helm; Brooke & Tyler Angle; and 5 step-grandchildren, Stephanie Hanway, Ryan Flores, Brandon Hensley, Reachel & Ali Salinas. Don enjoyed anything that involved his family. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 4 until 7 PM Sunday. Funeral services at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME 11:00 AM Monday, Fr. Dan Gartland officiating, with private family interment at St. Mary's Cemetery.
