Evelyn Peterson

Evelyn E. Peterson, 97, of Lafayette, died at Franciscan Health, St. Elizabeth Central 9:48 PM Friday March 2, 2012. She had resided the past 3 years at St. Anthony's Healthcare.
Evelyn was born in Tippecanoe County, near West Lafayette September 14, 1914, the daughter of the late John Peter "Pete" and Mary Magdalena "Lena" Schilling Brown, and attended Lafayette Jefferson High School. She married Francis Leo Peterson in Lafayette January 27, 1936 and he preceded her in death August 13, 1985. Evelyn and her husband resided on the Purdue Horticulture Farm from 1936 until 1977.
She was a life member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, and while her children were in school, she had been active in the Klondike PTA. Evelyn was a homemaker, but had worked for Sears, Roebuck and Co. from 1958 until her retirement in 1977.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Teresa Sears, (husband Robert) of Stockwell, IN.; Thelma Jean Hatke (husband Richard) of Rockville, IN.; Rosalyn Brown (husband John R.) of LaPorte, IN.; 2 sons, James E. Peterson (wife Patricia) of Lafayette, IN. and Philip R. Peterson (wife Lois) of Greencastle, IN. Also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Marcia Peterson of Lafayette, IN.; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Francis Paul Peterson; a grandson, Matthew F. Peterson, a step-great-great-grandson; 2 sisters, Ann Cavanaugh and Mary Kingama; and by 5 brothers, Andrew, John,George,Frank and Charles.
Friends may call from 5 until 7 PM Monday at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette, with Rosary service at 4:45 PM Monday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church 10:00 AM Tuesday, Fr. Tim Akire officiating, with interment to follow in St. Boniface Cemetery.
